"Where The Journey to Excellence Begins"

Principal Addison Davis

Greetings Chargers!

  Dear Students,
I hope that I find everyone well rested and ready to “charge” into the new year.  First and foremost, I would like to congratulate our students, faculty, staff, and community members as Jefferson Davis Middle School (JDMS) improved our school grade to a “B”.  It is evident that all stakeholders are committed to excellence and making JDMS a “Place of Choice” as we made the greatest gains out of all secondary schools in Duval County.  These accomplishments are a reflection that our instructional staff members are focused on providing the best educational experiences possible at Jefferson Davis Middle School.
As we commence into the 2008-2009 school year, we will be faced with new goals and expectations. Our goal for the coming school year is to become the first secondary educational institution on the westside to earn a school grade of an “A”.  This means that you will have to take pride in your education and begin establishing goals that you would like to accomplish. To ensure that you receive the best education possible at Jefferson Davis, the administrative and instructional staff members have spent all summer building plans that will allow you to prosper educationally.  As we begin the new year, our goal is to establish learning communities, increase rigor, improve work relevance, and build relationships.  In order to fulfill these expectations, your attendance, focus, and willingness to learn must be present on a daily basis.
I am extremely excited about what the 2008-2009 school year brings. You have been presented a tremendous challenge as you take on the objectives of accelerating your work.  However, I am convinced that each of you will be ready. Our mission for the coming year will be to continue to make Jefferson Davis Middle School a place of excellence and prepare tomorrow’s leaders-todayIn order to complete this task, we collectively must establish our goals and be willing to put education first. Enclosed you will find a copy of your 2008-2009 Academic Schedule, Bus Schedule, and a School Map.
To assist our educational institution in becoming a “model school”, you will need to identify the location of your classes and be ready to start academically on Monday, August 18, 2008.  You are expected to bring the necessary materials: pencils, pens, and notebook paper on the first day of school to begin working toward an outstanding academic school year. Please note that a more detailed supply list will be provided by your instructor the first week of school.  School will begin promptly at 9:15 a.m. and you are expected to go directly to your first period class. Again, I cannot express the excitement that I feel about “charging” into the new school year. I look forward to your presence as we embark to make Jefferson Davis Middle School “A Place of Choice”.

See you soon,

Addison Davis
