Principal’s Passage

November 30, 2007

It is hard to believe that the second quarter of school is well underway.  We have had a busy and exciting first quarter with more to come.  Our Book Character Pumpkin Parade was a tremendous success.  Thanks to all of the families and classes who participated.  It is great to see children and adults so excited about reading.  The International Fair was a cultural event that educated and entertained all in attendance.   The school was beautifully decorated for a trip around the world.  Students’ work displayed throughout the building showed an in-depth knowledge of the culture, geography and traditions of the countries studied.  This has become one of our premier events during the school year.

Progress Reports for the second quarter have been sent home.  If you did not receive one, please contact your child’s teacher.  Our Fast ForWord Laboratory is in operation daily and students are making excellent progress.  Did you know that the YMCA of the Bank of America Tower downtown sponsors tutoring, mentoring, Turkey Dinner giveaways at Thanksgiving, Angel Tree gifts for selected students, the Diamond Club Character Building and Mentoring Program and other events at our school throughout the year?  This organization is an integral part of our school success and we are very thankful for their continuous support.  Mrs. Stacy Pendry, our Music Teacher, has been working diligently to improve the music program through expanded services and donations.  Our Physical Education Department has held two fun and physical activities: Pumpkin Fun Day and the Turkey Run.  Mrs. Blakely, the Art Teacher, displayed a number of art projects during the International Fair.  Mrs. Heath, the school Media Specialist, has been supporting Reading through the Book Character Parade, Reading is Fundamental Book Give-Away and the Book Fair.  Our Resource department is working hard to meet the needs of all of our children.

We wish each family a fun-filled holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Nan Brooks Hoyle

Principal
