The world is definitely changing; from the exponential growth of the internet to the increasing need for multi-tasking and flexibility in the work world. At Kernan, we have chosen to learn and adapt to our changing world. In essence, we imagine the possibilities- in order for our students to be prepared for a dramatically different world. Kernan is founded on the belief that all children can learn and achieve at high standards. We seek to meet needs through innovation, collaboration, and a fluid educational model. Change is inevitable, and Kernan Middle School is embracing change to move all students further than we ever imagined.

Welcome to the Kernan Middle School Website. Kernan Middle School is the secondary portion of the Kernan K-8 Community. A “school within a school” model has been adopted and implemented for this campus. The campus is primarily comprised of three multi-grade level buildings or houses. Each house contains one core academic team for each of the following grade levels: 6th, 7th, and 8th. There are three House Administrators who serve as the instructional leaders of each of the three buildings.
This design is an integral part of creating a “small school” environment within a large school setting. This has been purposefully done in order to establish and maintain a secure and caring place where everyone feels they belong. Utilization of CHAMPs and Foundations makes Kernan one of the area’s educational leaders in preserving a safe, civil and positive school environment.
We have successfully implemented many of the district’s middle school initiatives such as: Read 180, Compass Odyssey and Fast ForWord. We also continue to look at assessment data to guide instruction and provide for continual and appropriate learning. Ultimately, our goal is to meet the specific needs of students and provide a learning atmosphere of high expectations for all students.
