It's unbelievable, but we're well into the second nine weeks!

 Here's what we'll be focusing on for this quarter:

 Reading

We're working with nonfiction texts this quarter.  All of the reading strategies and skills we learned during our focus on fiction will now be applied to nonfiction texts.  This would be the perfect time to share the newspaper with your child.  Help him or her look up phone numbers in the phone book.  Pull out the dictionary our students received from the Jacksonville Rotary Club and talk to them about guide words.  Dust off the encyclopedias and show them how to find information.  Doing any of these things will support what we're working on in the classroom and help your child be successful this nine weeks.

 Writing

Tying in with the nonfiction reading focus, our writing focus for the second nine weeks is report writing.  Your child will be selecting a topic, researching that topic, organizing the research, and writing his or her report. 

Social Studies

We'll be wrapping up Communities in History and moving into Our Government and Economics Everyday.
