Our Mission

The mission of the Lake Forest Elementary Creative Writing Program is to introduce young writers to many different forms of creative writing. They will show growth through the examination of their individuality through writing and workshops to  develop their craft.

What are We Working On?

The Lake Forest Elementary Magnet Programs are performing Seussical, Jr. in November and the Creative Writing Program is working on Dr. Seuss-style writing. We are studying the life of Dr. Seuss, as well as his books. Our completed projects will be featured on the bulletin board in the front of the school. Make sure to stop by and check out the amazing work created by our awesome authors!

Additionally, the Creative Writing Magnet students are working on a short story for the annual Holiday Short Story Contest hosted by The Florida Times-Union. Young writers are required to write a fictional short story in less than  1,000 words and include the following words and/or phrases at least once: not, wreath, mistletoe, blizzard, kazoo, gingerbread, family, Alabama, puppy, stocking, roller coaster, and Kermit the Frog. Students will display their work to be voted upon and the three pieces with the highest votes will be submitted for a chance to win $100 as the top student author or $50 as a runner-up. Stay tuned for more information on this project!

Assignment One:

Everyone knows the old nursery rhyme, "Little Miss Muffet," where a little girl, eating her curds and whey, is rudely interrupted by a spider who sits down beside her and frightens her away.  However, do you know the "behind-the-scenes" story?  Why was Little Miss Muffet eating her curds and whey outside?  Did the spider intentionally scare Little Miss Muffet away?  Our Creative Writing students have now completed our “Little Miss Muffet” plays and they have been published.

Get a glimpse of our plays by clicking here.

Attention Magnet Parents and Students!!!

Please make sure you read the Creative Writing Packet and complete the last two pages (Parent Survey, Acknowledgement of Receipt of and book), and the media release form.
