The Dance Program

In our Lake Forest Elementary Dance Program, students are introduced to creative movement and are taught various styles of dance with a strong emphasis on ballet technique. In addition, terminology, choreography, and dance history are part of lessons.  All Lake Forest students attend dance class on a two-week rotation.

Magnet Select Dance classes are offered to those 4th & 5th grade students choosing to focus more intensively on the study of dance. These classes train more extensively and prepare our students for the LaVilla School of the Arts Middle School’s dance program. Students must audition to be considered for the Lake Forest dance magnet program.

Classes are as follow for Magnet Select Dance students:

Tuesday 2PM-3PM, 4th Grade

Thursday 2PM-3PM, 5th Grade

All students in the Dance Magnet Select Program are required to wear proper attire and remain in good standing with their academics.

Instructed by Ms. Krystina Alexis Nelson, the program exposes students to a variety of dance knowledge to help students learn dance and to gain an appreciation for dance and performing arts.

As a professional dancer and choreographer in New York City, Ms. Nelson has had a full career in theatre, television, theme parks, cruise ships, and industrial dance work. She obtained her college degree in Dance Management from the prestigious and renowned program at Oklahoma City University in addition to her certification in Dance from the Florida Department of Education. Ms. Nelson has taught for several years at the recreational and competitive level, before becoming the Director of the dance program at Lake Forest Elementary. She continues to travel as a guest artist for university and pre-professional level students around the country. She is also a regional director and adjudicator for national talent competitions. Ms. Nelson’s classes are focused on discipline, placement, technique, and allowing students to learn how to channel their creativity and athleticism through the art of dance.
