DRAMA FOCUS
Our focus for the first part of the year is for our students to know that acting is not just reciting lines, but encompasses facial expressions, hand gestures and body movement.
In drama resource class, students will learn how to portray a variety of emotions: sad, happy, angry, surprise, shy, and even afraid. Students are now focused on body motion and being aware of performance space.
In our magnet class – students are developing their basic acting skills through dramatic exercises, theatre games, puppetry, and theatre appreciation.
We also have a student operated CCTV morning news program, WLFE-TV. Our program airs every morning announcing the events of the school day, the weather, the lunch menu with resident puppet, Chef Mario and featured segments from Star’s Corner.
SPOTLIGHT ON TALENT
Our magnet showcase presentation is called “Heal the World”. Performance days are December 15th and 16th. The show will spotlight such arts areas as: strings, orff, chorus, dance and dramatic performances featuring pantomime, sign language and puppetry. So mark it in your calendars to come to this very special presentation.
LAVILLA AUDITIONS
During the fall months we will be preparing the drama students for their LaVilla School of the Arts auditions in January. Students must learn a one minute monologue. They will also be asked to participate in drama exercises, and Improv skits. At the conclusion of the audition, evaluators will interview each student to see if they really have passion to be a LaVilla Student. More information about LaVilla auditions at a later date.
THE BIG SHOW And, we are pleased to announce that our spring production this year will be Willie Wonka Jr. Auditions will be after FCAT testing. Performance dates will be May 25, 26 and 27, 2010.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Parents are welcome parents to come and visit our school during their child’s drama resource class or during magnet time (2:00pm – 3:00pm). Please send a note with your child or inform the front office to your visit. We’d love to have you stop by!
Also, the drama department needs parents to help with informances and performances; Arts boosters, fundraising, and obtaining production materials. We also are looking for willing parents to help out with our shows – hair, make up, costuming (sewing as well as organizing the costumes and costume room.) And, designing and preparing props for the shows.
