                                                Welcome

Dear Parents and Guardians,

An important addition to the work that your child is doing at school is practicing at home. The following suggestions show you just a couple of ways to include specific learning into your child's home life. And the best part of this is, your child won't even realize that he/she is learning J

The students have been working hard in Math. We have created our own patterns....including rhythm patterns! Our classes are continually practicing our addition and subtraction facts. We are using these facts to help us with Combining and Separating Word Problems. This is definitely something that your family can practice at home.

For example: There are 12 juice boxes in a box. If kids come along and drink 3 of them, how many are left? 12-3=9. There are 9 left.

This is a great way to show your child that these problems can be related to real life.

Our classes are now infusing dance into our regular lessons. We will be using our bodies to make the shapes of letters. Then we'll put letters together to make words! This would be a fun activity for your family to do.

For example: If your child is playing with a friend, the friend could spell out b-a-g with their body. Your child would then identify the letters, put the letters together and spell b-a-g, bag. Then it would be your child's turn to make a word.

Besides making words, we will be learning how to show tempo (speed) through dance. Did you know that you can show emotion through dance too?

Thank you for your support as we begin the second nine weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the school at 924-3024 so that we can set up a conference.
Reading with Your Child

Reading to and with your child every night is extremely important. Here are some ideas that will make reading with your child a great learning experience.
*Before you read, ask your child to look at the cover and predict what the story will be about. Who is the author? Who is the illustrator?  Is this story fiction or non-fiction?

*While you are reading, stop and ask your child these questions:  Who are the characters?  Where does the story take place? What is the problem in the story?

*After you read together, talk about the book. Did you like the book? What was your favorite part? How was the problem solved?   Was your prediction right?
