The Music Curriculum

The music program at Lake Forest is based on four concepts:  Investigations, Performances, Creativity and Connection.  Our entire family here at Lake Forest believes that music is an essential discipline necessary for the well-rounded development of every child.

Investigations

Students will investigate the history of music as well as the influence that today's technology has on music.  Students will investigate musical criteria, make informed judgments and study vocal timbres that are unique to each age group.  Students will also evaluate the role of music in their lives and society.

Performances

The students will learn to participate as a musician through moving to music, playing instruments, and singing.

Creativity

Students will learn to use tools of musical notation and technology to express their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through original composition.

Connection

Students will relate music to many different cultures, principles of rhythm, tonality, and academic subjects such as History, Science, and Math.  They will also connect academic subjects through common expressive elements, principles of rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre.
