New to Lake
Shore Middle School for the 2009-2010 School Year
Introducing Tribal Walk
One of the changes to Lake Shore this year is our
addition of Tribal Walk to our rituals and routines. Students
will no longer be dismissed by the ringing of bells. Instead,
classes will be dismissed as teams and teachers will escort students
to their next class. Students will move in lines through
common areas of the school. This effort will increase teacher
supervision and decrease travel times and congestion throughout the
school.
New Schedule
This year school starts at 9:45. Students
may be dropped off no earlier than 9:30. Students will be
dismissed at 4:00 PM. Additionally, students are scheduled in
an A day B day schedule. Their classes will be 90 minute
blocks rotating between each of these two days. Students will
also have a 45 minute class daily that will serve as their homeroom.
New Dress Code
The Lake Shore Middle School dress code has
changed. Male students must now wear a belt with a tucked in
shirt. Pants must be belted at the waist. Skirts and shorts
must be at least finger tip length. Shirts with spaghetti
straps or that are overly tight or revealing, will not be permitted.
Students will not be permitted to wear heels of any kind. Flat
shoes are required, but may include flip flops or sandals.
For further information about the school dress
code, please refer to the Lake Shore Gazette.
Team Up
Team Up is an after school academic and enrichment
program brought to us by the Jacksonville Journey through Community
Connections. Students participating in Team Up will receive
tutoring and homework help after school in addition to an enrichment
class that may include the arts, sports, or even time to play their
favorite board game. Team Up is a five day a week program that
lasts from 4:15-7:00 PM. Dinner and snacks are served to students
each day. Students participating in Team Up will also have the
opportunity to attend fun field trips.
For more information about Team Up, contact the
Team Up coordinator.
IB Update
Lake Shore is in the final phases of our journey
toward becoming an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
We will soon be receiving a visit from the official authorization
team for the International Baccalaureate. The team will meet
with teachers, students, and parents over the course of a week some
time during this fall. We eagerly await their visit. We
look forward to showing off the changes that we have made to the
school as a result of our involvement with the IB program.
