School Profile
Lake Shore Middle School is a large public school located on the
Westside of Jacksonville, Florida. Established in 1942, Lake Shore has undergone many transformations in its 66 years. Most recently, Lake Shore Middle School began implementing the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
IB Program
Lake Shore Middle School is implementing The Middle Years International Baccalaureate Programme which provides support for the mental, physical, and social development of our students during the critical transition period from childhood to adolescence. This
whole school program of study fosters critical thinking and exposes students to world culture, creating an environment that promotes a high standard for academics, as well as also encouraging acceptance of diversity. Our faculty and staff believe that all students can achieve a high level of academic success. By building the stamina to meet high standards and developing an understanding of the global community around them, we have prepared our students to excel at the high school of their choice.
Although Lake Shore Middle School is open to magnet students, all
students at Lake Shore Middle School will participate in the IB
program. The MYP is a part of everything we do and as such
there are no separate classes for IB, rather every class will
implement the strategies and teaching methodologies that the IB
teaches as best practices.
Academics
At Lake Shore, our focus is the development of academics through
attention to the students’ social and emotional needs as well as
their intellectual pursuits.
Lake Shore Middle School offers a wide range of academic experiences. In addition to the core academics, science, language arts, math, and social studies, we also offer music, art and Foreign Language courses.
