GANDHI Viewing 1--Movie worksheet

POLITICAL CARTOON PROJECT
There is an old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words."  We are going to take that saying to heart.  Instead of writing about India and the messages of Gandhi, we are going to illustrate our understanding of the events and the issues of Imperialism and India's independence through the form of a political cartoon. As a cartoonist, you will choose the subject and viewpoint you want to illustrate, taking what your have learned about India's history and Gandhi and using it to create your own political cartoon.

POINTS TO PONDER: Here are some guiding questions that may help you get started: What was the social structure like in India in the 1900s? What were the effects of Imperialism on India? How did the Industrial Revolution affect India's economy and its people? How did civil disobedience play a role in India's fight for freedom? Also, don't forget to use the movie worksheet with its facts and details to help bolster your creativity.  Political cartoon rubric

Extended Response: Using the Hamburger paragraph with FRIESS, write to explain and/or describe your political cartoon and its meaning. What is the message you as the cartoonist are sending? Your extended response must be written on a separate piece of paper, attached to the back of the cartoon along with the FCAT rubric.
