ENTERTAINMENT- CHEAP AND FREE |
|
In the time of segregation, just as today, children would look for any means of entertainment to help them get through the challenges of their lives. Entertainment was limited during the civil rights movement. People of those times would look for entertainment that was either cheap or free. Board games and toys were popular in mist neighborhoods, where the baby boom made sure there were always playmates. But outdoor fun was king. Everyone loved the free enjoyment of the outdoors. The outdoors were perfect! It was free, and extremely entertaining. The outdoors were a host of fun, imagination, and entertainment. An abundant of games were played including-kickball, and hide and seek Television also had a big role in entertainment. Though buying a TV wasn't necessarily free; pay TV was still in the future. Once you had access to a TV, viewing the many entertaining shows only took some free time. The TV shows ranged from humorous families living together to western heroes. Some great television shows then were The Ed Sullivan show, Twilight Zone, and Bonanza. They were all great shows because they fit the interests. If you wanted a good scare then Twilight Zone is the show for you. Or if your a more comedic type then you got The Ed Sullivan Show and Bonanza to view for your enjoyment. Compared to today, entertainment choices were few, but Americans of the 60's still knew how to enjoy themselves. BY: JUCOBY JOHNSON AND JOSH GONZALEZ |
