Business Technology Department

The business Technology Department is in the midst of updating equipment and courses offered this year. There are two Business Technology teachers at Lee:  Mrs. Aldena Milner and Mrs. Marian Walker (department head).  The following is a listing of all of the courses offered through the business department and a brief description of each:

 

Keyboarding and Business Skills (1/2 credit course)

This course is designed to teach students basic keyboarding skills (typing) and techniques of formatting to include information systems inputting.  It provides a basic overview of current business and information systems and trends, and it introduces students to the basics and foundations required for today’s business environments.  This course will meet requirements of the Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship.

Computer and Business Skills (1/2 credit course)

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic skills and foundations required for today’s business environments.  Emphasis is placed on developing proficiency with touch keyboarding and fundamental computer applications using databases, spreadsheets, presentation applications, and the integration of these programs using software that meets industry standards.  This course will meet requirements of the Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship.

Computing for College and Careers (1 credit course)

This course is designed to provide a basic overview of current business and information systems and trends to introduce students to the basics and foundations required for today’s business environments.  Emphasis is placed on developing proficiency with touch keyboarding and fundamental computer applications.  Students will become proficient when using databases, spreadsheets, presentation applications, and the integration of these programs using software that meets industry standards.  This course will meet requirements of the Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship.

Introduction to Information Technology (1 credit course)

This course is designed to provide an introduction to information technology concepts and careers as well as the impact information technology has on the world, people, and industry and basic web design concepts.  The content includes information technology career research; operating systems and software applications; electronic communications including E -mail and Internet services.  This course will meet requirements of the Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship.

Diversified Career Technology Principles (1 credit course)

This course is designed to enable each student to demonstrate employability skills; environmental, health, and safety skills; professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities; financial skills; leadership skills; communication skills; human resources and labor skills; America’s economic principles; entrepreneurship principles; relate planning methods to life and career goals; and use of industry/technology principles in the workplace.  This course will meet requirements of the Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship.

Diversified Career Technology On the Job Training (1 credit course)

This course is designed to enable each student to demonstrate competencies in a specific career and to demonstrate legal and ethical behavior within the role and scope of job responsibilities through an on-the-job training experience.  An individualized training plan is developed and utilized to ensure that training is provided which will develop the necessary competencies/skills in order for the student to become competent in the occupation for which he/she is being trained.  This course will meet requirements of the Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship.
