Graduation Initiative

Your help is needed to reduce the dropout rate. If you know a student who may qualify for the G.I. Program, please encourage him/her to stop by guidance for an initial screening. Parents may also be encouraged to evaluate the G.I. as an exit option for their child.

The GED Exit Option Model is a program approved through an agreement between the Florida Department of Education and the American Council of Education to assist over age for grade students in graduating from high school via successful completion of the GED Test and the FCAT exams. The program is not intended to authorize early exit or early graduation for students. It is designed to enable students to graduate with the class with whom they entered kindergarten, or as soon thereafter as possible. The program includes counseling and advisement services that provide each student with career planning assessment. As part of the initiative, each student will explore career interests that could include further education and/or vocational training beyond high school.

G.I. Basic Requirements:
-Student must be age 16 or older
-Student is over age for grade
-The peer group with which the student entered kindergarten is graduating or has already graduated
-Student must meet criteria for an approved drop out program
-Student must pass the FCAT and GED test in order to recieve a district high school diploma
-Student must maintain acceptable employment or approved volunteer service to meet the marketing co-op component of Graduation Initiative
