Attention Parents of 2009-2010 First Graders!!!
First Grade News
It’s hard to believe we are already starting the 2nd nine-weeks of school. We are off to a great start and the children are really adjusting nicely.
Important Reminders:
Remember that report cards go home on November 3rd. Please sign and return your child’s report card and return to school the next day. If you would like to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher, you can note that on the signed portion of the report card.
Our field trip to see “Junie B. Jones” is on Monday, November 9th. Please make sure your child arrives at school on time, as we will be leaving around 9:00. Make sure to send a bag lunch and disposable drink (no lunch boxes, please).
Our first grade will perform on December 10th at the PTA meeting. Watch for a permission slip for your child to participate in the play. We will be performing, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
We will begin Functional Writing in November. In this type of writing, children tell how to make or do something. In Math, we will continue to work on addition & subtraction facts and begin to try to memorize our facts. In Reading, we will continue to work on comprehension skills including making predictions, inferring, main idea, drawing conclusions, comparing/contrasting, classifying and categorizing information. Make sure you are listening to your child read aloud each day for at least 20 minutes. After they read, close the book and have them retell the story from their memory.
