Florida PTA is the largest statewide volunteer organization working exclusively on behalf of children and youth. Founded in 1921, Florida PTA seeks to unite home, school and community for all children and attempts to influence policy makers on the health, education, welfare, and safety issues affecting our children and youth.
Here at Lone Star Elementary, we have a very active PTA, which encourages parent and community involvement. We have enjoyed 100% PTA parent and faculty membership for 28 years! We haven't made 100% grandparents membership, but we do receive the Grandparent's Award every year due to their participation. We had 85 grandparents join last year! Also, we have been the recipients of the local unit achievement award in addition to numerous other state and national PTA awards for a number of years. Our volunteers log in over 3,000 hours per year!
This year we have several new business partners who have partnered with us to offer a special discount card to PTA members - places like Space Walk, Dunkin Donuts, Morning Glory Pottery, Adventure Landing and more.
Our Lone Star Elementary PTA sponsors an impressive list of annual events. We offer various teacher appreciation activities throughout the year. We perform student services such as vision screening and healthy head checks. We offer parent workshops, school assemblies and family activity nights. We are also responsible for the book fair, play days, fifth grade party, ecology projects, the yearbook, and incentive awards. Our historian book has won a Duval County award for over five years. We are so very proud of our achievements and are committed to working with Lone Star Elementary in providing the best possible learning experience for all our students.
Our PTA meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month beginning at 6:45. Our meetings are open to all parents. Business will be conducted and chairpersons will give reports and updates about upcoming events. In addition, grade levels perform at the conclusion of the business meeting. Dues for the school year are $6.00. Please consider joining Lone Star PTA and supporting our students, teachers and the school! Forms are available in the beginning of school packets or in the front office.
