Young marine biologists release fish raised in JAXPORT-sponsored lab into the St. Johns River
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 28, 2014) -Fifth grade students from Mayport Elementary's Coastal Sciences Academy released adult fish they raised themselves from hatchlings into the St. Johns River. The students raised the fish over the course of the spring semester as part of the “Small Fry to Go" program, a hands-on outdoor lab, sponsored by JAXPORT.
As an involved corporate citizen, JAXPORT sponsors or participates in numerous community outreach programs around Northeast Florida focused on education.
The Mayport students cared for the striped bass in the "Labitat” and learned to maintain a proper aquatic environment. Other parts of the curriculum include the importance of preserving habitats and being good environmental stewards.
