Admission Requirements
  • Successful completion of Algebra I in the eighth grade.
  • Achievement Level 4/5 on both Reading and Mathematics sections of 7th grade FCAT.  Comparable test scores from private school or out-of-state students will be accepted.
  • Student submission of their second nine weeks’ grade card
  • Recommendations from the four core academic teachers in the eighth grade
  • Favorable attendance and conduct records
  • Interview, if requested by the admissions committee

What is AICE?
  • An international, English medium, pre-university program


  • For academically able students


  • Examinations are taken within a 13 month period, typically in June of junior year, and November and June of senior year


  • Curriculum designed as preparation for college and university programs


  • Administered by University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate

Qualification Process
  • Composite score is figured and based on the following criteria:
    • First half of eighth grade core academic GPA (3.0)
    • Standardized test scores(FCAT scores-Level 4/5 in reading and math, or Norm-Referenced test (85th percentile)
    • Eighth grade teacher recommendations (core academic areas)

Curriculum
  • Designed for educational breadth, balance, and student strengths -
  • For educational breadth and balance, students must choose and test
  •        in one full AICE level class from each of the following three groups of
  • study:
    •     Group A:  Mathematics and Sciences
    •     Group B:  Languages
    •     Group C:  Arts and Humanities


    • Students then must choose three additional AICE level classes from all choices available.

Coursework
  • Most syllabi have either compulsory or optional coursework


  • Advantages:
    • Assessment of skills which cannot be tested in a formal written examination
    • Teachers can adapt courses to local circumstances
    • Students can develop their own interest
    • Teachers are involved in the assessment process, enhancing their own expertise and understanding
    • By increasing the amount of assessment, and by testing students in differing contexts, the overall reliability of the examination is enhanced

  • Beyond increased GPA, scholarships, advanced standing for completion of the AICE diploma, possibility of college credit and college -level preparation, students benefit from:


    • Exposure to different methods of assessment, with particular emphasis on development of writing and higher level thinking skills
