American Cancer Society Relay For Life

Cancer Survivor Recognition and Luminaria Ceremony

(Jacksonville, FL April 11-12, 2008) The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where groups of friends, families, neighbors and coworkers form teams to walk or run around a track, to raise spirits, awareness and funds to fight cancer through American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy and patient & family services. The Mandarin Relay for Life event is on Friday, April 11th, beginning at 4pm through 10am on Saturday, April 12th at Mandarin High School at 4831 Greenland Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32258-1517.

How can you participate?  Form or join a team to walk and raise money at the event.  Register online at www.events.cancer.org/rflmandarinfl or call Sandi Clay at the American Cancer Society at (904) 391-3618.   Come to the event for the kickoff, Survivor Lap or Luminary Ceremony.  Support our teams’ fundraisers.  Test your skills in the Joust House!  Donate blood from 4-8pm.  Sign our banner to show your support for Cancer Advocacy issues.  The DJ and family-friendly entertainment including cheerleaders, bands, a talent contest, scavenger hunts and more are sure to entertain!

Cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) are invited to walk the Survivor lap at 6pm to celebrate their victory over cancer and join us for dinner afterward.  Each cancer survivor will receive a free T-shirt to wear while walking the track. There is no cost to participate. Cancer survivors can register online at www.events.cancer.org/rflmandarinfl or call Sandi Clay at the American Cancer Society at (904) 391-3618 to register.  Families and caregivers are encouraged to attend.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life Luminaria Ceremony remembers those lost to cancer and honors cancer survivors. Individuals or companies can make contributions and light a luminaria In Honor of someone fighting cancer or In Memory of someone who has lost the battle.  Each dedicated luminaria will be displayed at the Relay For Life event held at Mandarin High School at 9pm.   Luminaria contributions can be made online at www.events.cancer.org/rflmandarinfl or call Sandi Clay at the American Cancer Society at (904) 391-3618.
