SUMMER ASSIGNMENT

Welcome to the study of Geometry!  You have a summer extra credit opportunity to help strengthen your skills. Please read the information below carefully.

Assignments are to be completed on the worksheets that are provided.  Be sure to place your name on the top of each paper. Keep your assignments in a folder that has clips (duo-tang folder).  The assignments should be in order from the first to the last.

The assignments are as follows:

                1. Solving two-step inequalities

                2. Translation of shapes

                3. Solving systems of equations by graphing

                4. Finding slope from two points (can be solved algebraically or graphically)

                5. Multi-step equations

                6. Multiplying binomials (show your products, first, out, inner and last)

                7. Graphing quadratic functions (you must find and graph points)

                8. Graphing lines in slope-intercept form (you must find and graph points)

9. The Distance Formula (radicals must be simplified)

10. Circles - circumference

You work should be neat and legible.  Show all work on the paper. If more space is needed you may use loose leaf paper.  The file titled links is a resource for help on the topics.  Most of the help links will take you to Purple Math.  This is a great site and will provide you with examples and lessons to help you complete assignments.  You can search Google for other help.  Don’t buy anything; there is plenty of free help out there on the web (click for list of math websites).

The booklet containing all of your assignments should be ready to turn in the first day of class.  Come to class prepared to start working!  You will need loose leaf paper, graph paper (4x4 or 3x3), pencils, erasers and a binder (1 or 1 ½ inch) with dividers to keep your materials organized.  A scientific calculator is a must for geometry.  A graphing calculator is nice but not needed until algebra II.  We use Texas Instruments graphing calculators here at Mandarin High School.  If you should buy a new TI (scientific or graphing) calculator, you should save the UPC for extra credit!  Many stores will have them on sale in August.

The geometry teachers look forward to seeing you next August!
