Summary: The Rugby Club is comprised of around 30 boys and girls eager to learn a new sport and stay active. The game of rugby has been around since the days of soccer and is what American Football was originally modeled from. Each team is allowed 15 players on the field during play. The only way to advance the ball forward is to run it or kick it. Players may pass the ball but it has to be either lateral or backwards. The object of the game is to score, like in football, but when you cross the end zone you have to touch the ball down with possession. Hence the name touchdown in American football even though they have evolved from that rule. Currently the boys in the rugby compete with the Jacksonville U-19 rugby team which plays teams from Tampa Bay to Daytona. There currently is not a U-19 woman's league in Florida but there are multiple schools in Florida that have adopted high school women's teams that the girls of the rugby team are eager to play. Any players interested in joining the Rugby club, they can e-mail coach McLogan at mcloganb@duvalschools.org or visit jaxrugby.org and visit the U-19 link.
