Community Service

Community service is a dynamic and valuable part of a student’s education in becoming an aware and contributing individual within our community.  Community service is time spent providing services to youth, senior citizens, developmentally or physically challenged individuals, or participating in improving the quality of life, creating and preserving a healthy and safe environment, historical preservation, or encouraging arts and culture.

Many colleges consider community service as an important factor in accepting a student for admission.  Florida’s state funded Bright Futures Scholarships require 75 community service hours to be considered eligible for the100% tuition and fees Florida Academic Scholars Award.  Additionally, community service allows opportunities to expand experiences and skills and to grow in ways that are impossible to anticipate but add meaning and depth to life.

For more information about Bright Futures community service requirements go to:

  • FAQ’s about community service and the official Bright Futures guidelines.  Read these for important and detailed information about what counts before accessing and downloading
  •  The required community service plan sheet and
  • Community service hours verification log form for Bright Futures.  Both the plan sheet and the verification log must be returned to guidance to be recorded for Bright Futures eligibility.  Information regarding college admission community service requirements/verification is not included (check the website of the institutions you are considering).
