As a Standards-based school system, our ultimate goal is to have our
students use the knowledge they gain from their educational experiences to
perform at a level (standard) of achievement on or above par with any
other students in the global community.
ALL
Safety Net plans and activities MUST be connected to the Standards of the
course involved. Earning extra credit points, accepting late homework/class
work assignments for less credit, cleaning desks after school, assigning
class "buddies", etc. are all part of classroom management and/or
operational procedures— and they are certainly worthwhile. However, they do
not address Standards mastery.
INTERNAL SAFETY NET
Each teacher is expected to
design and provide a before-during-after class program for reteaching,
remediating, recycling lessons, quizzes, tests, or performance tasks in
order to ensure his students' mastery of the standard addressed.
ASSESSMENT plays a major role in this process. Testing data, classroom
attendance and performance, homework and class work accuracy all help
determine who and what are addressed. Make-up work due to absenteeism is
addressed here.COMMUNICA TION is extremely important.
Specific and detailed policies must be published and communicated by each
teacher to his/her students, their parents, and to the school
administration.DOCUMENTATION of these activities is
imperative. Grade Recovery Safety Net attendance is not an option before
this step has been taken.

EXPANDED INTERNAL SAFETY
NET
Teachers of the same course
may choose to attack their Internal Safety Net strategies as a small
group, sharing before or after school help/make-up session duties. The
expectations are the same as for the above mentioned Internal Safety Net
system.
EXTERNAL SAFETY NETS
The school will provide
official safety net programs for GRADE RECOVERY in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Eligibility
requirements, procedures and practices will be determined by the school
leadership team. These are NOT intended as make-up sessions, nor for
detention purposes. These safety net providers are responsible for
remediating specific standards (communicated by the classroom teacher) and
for recording attendance and standards mastery. It is the responsibility of
the classroom teacher to reassess the student and his course grade. No
grade recovery is
allowed after final credit has been awarded for a class.
OTHER EXTERNAL SAFETY NET
PROGRAMS
FCAT REMEDIATION...
Students will be remediated in class via FCAT data provided by RESDAC files
as the first strategy; teachers will design and provide action plans for
identified students. After school FCAT REMEDIATION class is designated
primarily for Juniors and Seniors. They will be identified by Curriculum
and notified by their guidance counselors of the need to attend. Parent
contact will be documented as will names, dates of attendance, and strands
taught by the provider. Times and dates as
