Students walk around the halls dressed as
their favorite Disney character, wearing precisely the same outfit as
another person, or sporting everyone’s favorite hunting gear; this depicts
what happens on Homecoming Week. However, it seems like most of students in
costume are those involved in Student Council and maybe a select few who
choose to dress up only on certain days. We all love having dress-up days
that are designed to promote school pride and unity, but not everyone
participates. How does the lack of participation convince the administration
that we should even have dress-up days?
Dress-Up days are a great way to reduce school tension during
the week of the Homecoming Varsity football game. In theory, every student
is supposed to participate in the dress-up days, which is why the school
opens it up for all grade levels and all clubs. Student Council Senators
earn points for their participation and it’s beginning to seem that dress-up
days are only for the members of this club.
Even though this Homecoming has come to a close, it is still
important for all grades to think about dressing up next year. Senior Week
begins October 27, and it would be a shame if only half of the senior class
participated in the different days. Underclassmen, try to get your friends
and the other students in your grade more excited about the Dress-Up days
next year. After all, everyone likes the good laugh they get while rushing
to class and seeing some of the more care-free students interpreting the
dress-up days to fit their own personalities..
Homecoming Week may have seen some interesting outfits, but it
could have been better if students looked around in their classes, and saw
more than five other students participating. After all, it is one of the
only times in which the fun can be seen through the academic environment
everyone needs to get involved.
Everyone should
consider dressing up with their friends as their favorite pop group, or at
least wear orange and green on Spirit Day. It serves no point for Student
Council members to think of the days, and for the leadership classes to make
elaborate signs and backgrounds for pictures if everyone is not excited
about the activities. Sure Student Council is one of the biggest clubs in
the schools, but Homecoming Dress-Up days aren’t just for them: they’re for
every student.
