I wasn't expecting to enjoy
the show due to the fact that the title sounded kind of cheesy. however, I
am exceptionally glad I went, because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sarah Feasel
did an outstanding job as Audrey. I wasn't privy to the fact that she has
such a good singing voice, especially because of the fact that she had to
hold a deep northern accent, for the entire duration of the play, and sing
in the same dialect. Through the singing and choreography, Sarah proved
herself a worthy actress, although she did fall short on a few high notes.
However, in a solo performance of "Somewhere Green", 'Audrey' wowed the audience with
her impressive voice.
Devon Pollard, the maniacal dentist, and
Audrey's abusive boyfriend, kept the audience laughing up until his death.
One scene that caught my attention was the scene in which Orin Scrivello died
at the hands of his own noxious laughing gas. However, that was not the last we see
of Mr. Pollard. From an twisted dentist, to a feminine customer of the shop,
Devon also shows his versatility as a rising actor.
The Skid Row girls, who narrate the play
through song, were definitely a crowd favorite. Originally three girls,
the directors of the play decided to keep all four, for they couldn't decide
which to cut. They sang their hearts out, and did a tremendous job, and
strongly resembled Disney's Muses from the classic movie, Hercules.
Little Shop of Horrors was a true success,
and had a great plot line along side the fantastic voices picked to play and
act out this horror gone comical play. It grabbed the audience's attention,
from the story that surrounded the eclipse to the vines that fell from the
balconies as the curtains closed.
I would have to say that it was a well
spent five dollars, and truly deserves a full five stars.
