A Determined Charm

By: Ashley Simmons & Alexandria Hollowell

The anticipation of who would be Miss Mandarin 2010 was a moment- in- time that changed Mandarin High history.   Miss Mandarin must be able to uphold certain positions within the school and maintain the “ambassador” role or in other words, leadership position. Not only does Miss Mandarin need to embrace poise and confidence in herself but she should comprise a well-rounded image to all of Mandarin High as well as her community.

On March 20, 2009 Miss Briana Harrison was crowned Miss Mandarin 2010 and was able to prove to Mandarin High that you don’t have to fit a certain stereotype to be a leader as she represented all of the qualities she needed to achieve her accomplishment. She takes pride in her community and maintains a respectable reputation with her peers. As a rising senior she is determined to be a college student at Wake Forest University.

“I lived in Jacksonville all of my life and want to go somewhere new and exciting”, said Harrison.

As Miss Mandarin Briana wants to continue to represent her school and community by continuing her pageantry in the

Miss Senior High pageant and setting examples for the ones willing to follow.

“At first people thought I was one of those in it to-win-it but overtime all the girls bonded and formed a sisterhood. In the end it’s the judges’ decision.”

Most people think beauty queens are girly girls who have their life set around the stereotypical of the average shoppy and fashion conscious teenager. In contrast, Briana Harrison is an adventurous person who enjoys the outside environment.

“I ‘m an outdoorsy person and I love to go to the beach, jet ski, go out on canoes and volunteer a lot.”

As Brianna Harrison continues to finish out her junior year she has taken the advice of our former Miss Mandarin, Felicity Price.

“She has been an inspiration and has taught me to stay true to who you are and remember you’re constantly under everyone’s vision. “

As a student here Briana Harrison has been well-rounded and has taken different roles in school.

“I’ve been on the Magic’s Dance Team freshmen year and I was freshmen and sophomore class treasurer for two years.”

Miss Brianna Harrison has many responsibilities for the upcoming school year and plans to achieve greater accomplishments. As she thinks of the pageant she realizes that it is one experience she’ll always remember. She has a precise motto that she goes by.

“If you have it, give it; whatever your abilities are, use them.”
