                      Teacher of the Year

by Jordan Hardage

The beginning of a new school year means new everything including a new teacher of the year. For the year 2008-2009 the teacher of the year is none other than Ms. Shelli Rogers. She has been nominated for teacher of the year for the past three years but this year was her year. Ms. Rogers is “honored to be recognized for something she has done everyday, as all teachers at Mandarin High School are currently doing.”

Ms. Rogers has been teaching since 1994. by working with children with severe emotional issues she realized that a “good teacher’s job is to just believe in your students.”   Ms Rogers also worked at the state hospital in MacClenny as recreational therapist and from that she understood that the human behavior was the key to making a difference in life which meant getting to people before it was to late.

At first Ms. Rogers was a little nervous about the whole teaching thing so she  decided to be a coach. Soon after though she decided to “ give into her heart and put aside her fear and become a teacher.”  She came to Mandarin High School to work in the ESE department. She wants to do for students what others did for her, which was that  she wanted to give them hope and wanted to help them touch their dreams. In the words of Ms. Rogers “It’s my job and I Love it!!!”
