The Lady Mustang JV Softball Team Humiliates Opposing Sandalwood: 19-0

In an exciting and invigorating game this Tuesday, the 8-1 Junior Varsity softball team won again. Their goal for this game?

“To win!” said Annette Teague. And win they did.

As home team, our Mustangs took the field first. Freshman Cami Sullivan threw a flawless game for the two innings that she pitched. Combined with an infield that was ready to get down-and-dirty, and an outfield built for their intimidation as the Men in Black, the Lady Mustangs were unstoppable.

Freshman Kim Trinh led the offensive attack, scoring a total of four runs. Sarah Kane followed up with a double, which inspired a rally that resulted in a score of 12-0 at the end of the first inning.

By the third inning, Coach Jeremiah Brown decided to relieve Sullivan. The game was almost a shut out; only one Saint managed a base hit.

“I knew the game was going to be close,” Kathleen McWeenie commented after the game. “It started out close.”

Following the first inning, the game went into a lull. After several threats with poles from Coach Brown and Coach Jimmy Dean, the team finally got off their butts and the bats came alive once again. The final score was 19-0 in the fifth inning.

The Lady Mustangs’ next victim is Orange Park. In their season opener, they lost a hard fought fight to the Raiders. Now the softball team is looking for revenge.

“The JV softball team has lost four games in the past four years. Last year they went undefeated, the year before they lost once. This team isn’t used to losing, and I don’t expect you to adjust,” Coach Brown told his team after their loss.

“Our goal from here on is to go 7-0,” said Shanequa Monds.

The Mustangs play for redemption this Thursday at Orange Park, 4:30. On Friday they play their rivals for the first time this season, the 9-0 Bartram Bears. The game is away at 5:00. Come and support your team!
