Did you get the text? A whole school wide food fight in three of the four lunches occurred on Friday, January 8th, 2010. The text was spread by online websites such as Myspace and Facebook, as well as texting. The new lunch changes came into effect Monday, January 4th and stated only seniors were allowed to eat outside during lunch, the other grades all have to cram into the cafeteria. Though students were not pleased with the new changes, they managed until the talk of new ideas began. The food frenzy started in A lunch on Friday and continued from there. But for some reason it did not occur during B lunch. Many students spent ten days of suspension at Grand Park in consequence of their actions.

Why have there been more and more birds on campus? Many people have started to notice the increase in birds on school campus and it just isn’t pleasant. Maybe if they were blue jays or hummingbirds it would be okay, but that is not the case. They are annoying seagulls and crows, all around campus.

But why is it that these birds are suddenly deciding to stop by Mandarin High School? There are many factors but the main one is the increase of left over food that students decide to leave in the school hallways and courtyard. Most people would say that it isn’t really a bother, but who likes to have to sit around a bird dropping?

The other problem with this is that these birds are starting to get more and more dependant on humans everyday that they decide to eat on MHS student leftovers. The birds will start to count on the school to have food everyday. The big problem is that when school is out, the birds will not have the free food they receive from our campus.

Most people would probably say that it isn’t a big deal and that they are okay with feeding birds. But it is a problem. It is not a dire, need to fix now, situation but it should be worked on. It’s an easily fixed situation too. Buy a few more trash cans and let students know what is going on and everything can be fixed.

Senior Lunch Passes

“Alice in Wonderland” Review

After a long time of thinking the school approved that senior students can leave off campus to get lunch while everyone else has to stay inside the cafeteria. This privilege was thought to be a bad one, because of what happened when it was allowed. School did not allow this privilege until now, because they wanted to save students lives.

After the car accident at an intersection during lunchtime, the school disapproved of students leaving for lunch off campus. School did not want this to happen to anyone else so they took the privilege away. A lot of students were mad about it, but they could not do anything about the whole situation.

Also while seniors can go off campus, other students have to stay inside the cafeteria, which to me looks like less trouble to watch them and security can pay more attention to what happens in the cafeteria. They don’t have to stress about people fighting too much.

Last but not least it gives a choice for seniors to either stay at school and hangout with your friends or leave campus and do not come back. Which looks like it will happen a lot, because it would seem that nobody would want to go back to school after they had already left.

In conclusion senior lunch passes have their ups and downs. It’s a win and lose situation for both sides, school and the students. I don’t think too many people would not come back because most of them have a GPA of 3.0 and you would not want to mess your grades up just because of not coming back.

My Score: 6/10
The Mandarin Players performed “Alice in Wonderland” March 25-27. I would give the play a 6 out of 10. The actors and actresses were very talented and played their characters very well.  Alice looked better than the Alice from Tim Burton’s movie. The Mad Hatter and his tea party guests were exactly like I imagined they should be and resembled the characters depicted in the original animated “Alice in Wonderland.” The battle between Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum was hilarious. Their big, balloon-like outfits and the battle music that was playing during this scene added to the hilarity. I was very impressed with the backdrops and the costumes. The two rabbits and the mouse were adorable, the Mad Hatter was dressed perfectly, and the        Caterpillar’s costume/contraption was a work of art. His suit seemed to be over six feet tall and was made in such a way that several arms would move along with his main two arms. Unfortunately, I found the play very confusing and very difficult to follow. The script and dialogue seemed weak and didn’t help to clear things up at all. The play was made up of seemingly random scenes that weren’t connected besides the fact that they were all cliché ideas associated with “Alice in Wonderland.” One minute, Alice was holding a pig baby and the next she was painting roses. I would have enjoyed the play more if it wasn’t so random.
