Athletes and Social Networking Issues

Article taken from:  www.flrunners.com discussion board:

Coaches and Parents:

You may not be aware of some of the embarrassing things that high school student-athletes are posting on their Facebook page.

College coaches often look at them to see what kind of person they're considering for their programs. We also have alums and friends send us information from the prospects Facebook page.
Recently it's gotten a bit ridiculous. I've been sent comments from 16 and 17 year olds running smack about their abilities, my program, etc. Let's leave the smack-running to the Football programs. There's no need to describe FSU as "not in my Top 50" of one's college choices. Show some class and just say who you are considering.

Florida and Florida State have outstanding programs and we respect each a great deal.
We've also been sent items that would indicate an NCAA violation has occurred, so be very careful in what you do and say.

Have fun and keep it classy.
