OnCourse | Gizmo | Compass Odyssey | FCAT Explorer Dear Parents, Every staff member at Mattie V. Rutherford has committed to going above and beyond to meet the needs of your child. We believe that education extends beyond the classroom. As a result, we are taking the proactive step of informing you of several resources that can help with child’s success. This letter provides information about several learning tools that our teachers are using in their classrooms. Students can also access these tools at home. We strongly encourage students to take advantage of these resources, as they can be valuable supplements to student learning. Oncourse Oncourse is an online integrated software system that teachers use to track grades, attendance, and other administrative tasks. Parents can also monitor student progress reports, report card grades, attendance, teacher calendars, staff websites, and the school wide calendar using this website. The website is https://dcps.mygradeportal.com Access: Twenty-four hours after student orientation, a username and password for parents will be available at the school. Parents are encouraged to provide an email address during orientation. Please contact the principal to obtain your logon ID and password. Gizmo Explore Learning Gizmos are highly interactive, online simulations that help students build deep conceptual math and science understanding. The website has over 450 Gizmos (learning activities) that are appropriate for students in grades 3-12. To access Gizmos, follow these simple instructions: 1. Connect to the Internet using a browser. 2. Type in: http://www.explorelearning.com on the address bar. 3. Press the “Login” button on the top left corner of the page. 4. Login using your child’s username and password. 5. Press “Launch Gizmo” Your child’s Gizmo login information is shown below: Username: The letter “s” followed by their student number. For example (s59718629) Password: (Uppercase first letter of first name, two digit birth day, lowercase first letter of last name, last four digits of SSN). For example, John Brown’s password would be (J06b5468). Compass Odyssey Another exciting online resource that students can access at home is called Compass Odyssey. This software is very interactive and allows students to work on math and reading skills at home. Parents can also track and monitor student progress using this site. All grade and course recovery is completed through this website, please ask your child’s teacher for details. The site is https://odyssey.duvalschools.org Your child’s Compass Odyssey login information is: Username: The letter “s” followed by their student number. For example, John Brown’s password would be (J06b5468). FCAT Explorer This is yet another exciting website designed to provide students practice/support on FCAT reading, math, and science. Students can access this website at home as well. This site also has several links to other parent resources, the website is www.fcatexplorer.com. Your child’s login information is: Username: Last Name + First Initial (no spaces). For example, Mike Jones would be (jonesm)
