A Brief History Normandy Village Elementary opened its doors in 1962, with an official dedication on February 14, 1963. In 1974 we added Kindergarten classes, and in 1979 we became accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; we have remained fully accredited since that time. In 1985 a new third grade classroom wing was added. Our school has approximately 630 students. The average student per teacher ratio is 18:1 which meets state level requirements. We currently have six Kindergarten classes, five first grade classes, five second grade classes, seven third grade classes, four fourth grade classes, four fifth grade classes, two STAR (Drop-out Prevention) classes, two Emotionally Handicapped classes and four VE/Inclusion teachers. Also, we have four full time resource teachers - art, media, music, and physical education. We have a principal, assistant principal, a standards coach, a full-time speech therapist, and one guidance counselor. In addition to our certificated staff, we also have eight paraprofessionals, one extended day assistant, a bookkeeper, three custodians, and three cafeteria workers. Each grade level (1st – 5th) has an ESE inclusion class. Mental health counseling is provided to those in need through an arrangement with Child Guidance Services, Inc. We at Normandy Village are quite fortunate to have a very active PTA and SAC, and to have many active business partnerships. Our students are serviced through many community agencies such as BIGS (Big Brothers & Sisters in Schools) and Scouting
