A Message from our Principal
LaVerne Hamilton

Norwood Elementary school has a wonderful tradition of caring parents and staff, and

Our team wants to keep that history. As the new principal at Norwood this year, I welcome the opportunity to lead our school and we continue that tradition. As your children learn and grow, we will communicate student progress toward meeting the required standards for promotion. Standards tell us what students should know and be able to do at their grade level.

Our number one goal is to implement Reader’s Workshop from kindergarten through fifth grade. This model of instruction helps students to learn from many different kinds of activities that best meet their individual needs. A lot of rich literature like books, magazines, newspapers, and information articles are used on all grade levels.

As we go forward in to the school year, our doors remain open to you your family, and our community partners.. In addition to regular communications on a daily/weekly basis, teachers will send home a monthly newsletter from each grade level or department to increase our communications with parents and guardians.

Many student celebrations will be ongoing throughout the year. Some of them are a weekly school wide celebration of reading, the principal’s monthly reception for citizen of the month, award assemblies each marking cycle, celebration of readers who complete the Million Word Campaign, Accelerated Reader awards, as well as FCAT achievement.

We also look forward to honoring our community partners and volunteers.

We invite you to support PTA President, Chiquita Bell, and our School Advisory Council Chairperson Kecia Forcine, as they work with us toward school improvement.

Reading to or with your child at least thirty minutes each night, and volunteering at least four hours a year is a goal we ask each parent/guardian to support. You are your child’s first and most important teacher.

 Sincerely,

La Veren S. Hamilton, Prinicpal
