2008 JETS 2nd Place National Team!
The Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) www.jets.org is a national organization that runs an annual TEAMS competition, in which high school students work together to solve complicated and unfamiliar engineering problems. Knowledge of mathematics and science, especially physics, are most important; but the students are also challenged to express their knowledge in well-written essays. In 2008, 1180 teams from 648 high schools across the nation took part in the competition. As a magnet school with an International Baccalaureate program, Paxon competed in the toughest division against the most selective high schools in the nation. Nevertheless, the heroic Paxon Varsity Team captured SECOND place in the United States ahead of such power-house schools as Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach, Florida and Stuyvesant High School in New York City. (First place was taken by Detroit Country Day School.) Paxon's Junior Varsity Team, on which seniors are not eligible to compete, also did magnificently well, finishing SEVENTH in the United States among the junior varsity teams in the same tough division. Both teams were awarded trophies for their national championship level performance. The members of these superb teams are listed below. They deserve our heartiest congratulations!! VARSITY: Christian Tan, Jordan Hester, Donald Chang, Miguel Bejar, Adam Gazaleh, Daoud Rana, David Hartman, Ji Ho Lee JUNIOR VARSITY: Kelsey Cox, Rob Brice, Patrick Martin, Garrett Carter, Rick Aasen, Sean Lynch, Nityasree Srialluri, Sirisha Thambulum |
