Learn & Serve Through Acceptance Ramona Elementary was proud to accept a Florida Learn and Serve Grant this 2010/11 school year. Funds will be used to promote an anti-bullying and acceptance campaign through a variety of activities involving our students and children who happen to have a disability. Ramona Elementary has teamed up with the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville to help teach our students to value and appreciate the differences among all people as well as cooperate and learn from others who have a disability. Our activities will be recorded throughout the year and a video documentary will be produced to share this experience with other students at Ramona. Learn and Serve participants will teach their peers what it means to truly accept differences in others and why bullying cant and will not be tolerated in school. Upcoming Events: Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010- Buddy Walk (an annual event sponsored by DSAJ at Jacksonville Beach to raise awareness for Down Syndrome) Saturday, December 4, 2010- DSAJ Little Stars Event (a monthly event held for families and children with Down Syndrome to share information and celebrate) We will be running a craft table helping children with Down Syndrome make projects.
Thank you to those who have volunteered to make this project a success. The Learn and Serve students appreciate all of your efforts to make their service possible. Kendall Parris Learn and Serve Through Acceptance Pictures |
