Principal's Message
September 21, 2011 Dear Parents: We have had a fantastic start of the year. Thank YOU to each of you for sharing your children with us on a daily basis. We’re so glad you do!!! Another huge thank you must extend to each of you who attended our Title I meeting then our Open House last Thursday. We had quite the crowd. Thank you for being such wonderful role models for our children. When we [moms and dads] get involved with schools, we can do anything! So, thanks again for your attendance and participation at our meetings last week. Remember, it’s not too late to join PTA!!! Today, you should be receiving your child’s mid-term progress report. I wholeheartedly encourage you to set up a conference with your child’s teacher[s]. It’s really important that you know what our expectations are so that you can help us meet those expectations. We have a great deal of pressure on us to perform well on the state’s exam and we need your help to make sure our children are ready. J We need all parents to meet with their child’s teachers from kindergarten on up for our kindergarten students are going to be grade 3 and above students one day and it won’t be too far in the future!!!! If you do not get your child’s FAIR report [Florida Assessments for Instruction in Reading] today, please be on look out for it in the very near future. [As a school, we’ve not completely finished FAIR testing.] It has a lot of very, very valuable information in it. I really encourage you to speak with your child’s reading teacher about information specific to your child from this assessment. We note as a school that our children are and have been struggling with vocabulary for some time now. You can help us with this by reading books to your children at home that are slightly above what he/she is able to read on their own. The lack of wide reading catches our kids when they come across words and subjects they’ve never heard of before. It takes away from their ability to understand what they are reading. Please note that we have PTA scheduled for October 18th @ 7:00. We’ll have a guest speaker addressing bullying and we will have various students performing skits on this ‘hot’ topic that can make or break us. [Please note that we are beginning to call in small groups of parents when we see students having on-going issues with bullying. We cannot have bullying for it completely disrupts the learning environment and nobody wins when bullying is evident.] We hope you’ll be here on 10/18! We welcome you to our home away from home: Ramona Boulevard Elementary! JJ Please contact our Business Volunteer Liaison to find out how you can get involved with us. We NEED you! For our future, Donna Frank
