Community Parent Meetings to Discuss New FAIR Assessment for K-2
Several community parent meetings will be held throughout the city to communicate the update to the Student Progression Plan for K-2 students and how the Florida Assessment for Instruction in Reading (FAIR) assessment will impact instructional and promotional decisions.
The primary purpose of the meetings is to help parents understand how they may support their child in becoming a better reader and to learn more about the FAIR assessment.
District employees will be in attendance to answer questions and facilitate a community conversation around FAIR and share resources that will help students improve their reading skills.

Superintendent's Annual Reading Celebration
All Duval County Public Schools' students who read twenty-five books are eligible to become a member of the Superintendent’s Star Reader Club. Students must record their books with their classroom teacher. The teacher then reports the names of students who have met the challenge to the school media specialist who gives out invitations to the annual reading celebration.
Students who meet the twenty-five book standard are invited to an end of the year celebration that honors Duval County students. The celebration is organized by WJCT, Jacksonville Public Libraries, Chartwells-Thompson and Duval County Public Schools to promote reading in our community.
