Read It Forward Jax Events

We are cooking up some great events for Read It Forward Jax and would love to have your support.

Community Parent Meetings to Discuss New FAIR Assessment for K-2
Several community parent meetings will be held throughout the city to communicate the update to the Student Progression Plan for K-2 students and how the Florida Assessment for Instruction in Reading (FAIR) assessment will impact instructional and promotional decisions. The primary purpose of the meetings is to help parents understand how they may support their child in becoming a better reader and to learn more about the FAIR assessment. District employees will be in attendance to answer questions and facilitate a community conversation around FAIR and share resources that will help students improve their reading skills. For more information about FAIR, please visit www.fcrr.org/FAIR/index.

WHEN & WHERE:
April 30 - Jacksonville Public Library, (Main/Downtown Branch), 303 N. Laura St., Jacksonville, FL 32202

*All meetings are from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Superintendent's Annual Reading Celebration
All Duval County Public Schools' students who read twenty-five books are eligible to become a member of the Superintendent’s Star Reader Club. Students must record their books with their classroom teacher. The teacher then reports the names of students who have met the challenge to the school media specialist who gives out invitations to the annual reading celebration.

Students who meet the twenty-five book standard are invited to an end of the year celebration that honors Duval County students. The celebration is organized by WJCT, Jacksonville Public Libraries, Chartwells-Thompson and Duval County Public Schools to promote reading in our community.

10th Annual Reading Celebration

Give books to your school with We Give Books during Read for My School
The Pearson Foundation developed the project, Read for My School, as a way to promote reading and give an opportunity for individuals to give back to their school. Starting February 14, 2012, when you read online at www.wegivebooks.org, you’ll have the chance to read great children’s books for free and send a new book directly to a school you choose.
