Why a 25-Book Campaign?
Students need to read about one million words a year in order to develop sufficient vocabulary to continually improve their reading proficiency (Nagy and Herman, 1987). In order to achieve those one million words, students need to spend 25 minutes a day reading at a rate of 200 words per minute for 200 days out of a year (Irvin, 1990).

At the end of each grading period, teachers will post student’s progress with the number of books read. The media center will provide reading celebrations and prize drawings to acknowledge students’ achievements who read the required number of books at the end of each marking period.

*8th grade fees for all activities is $145. If 100 students pay for all activities, their meal at Golden Corral on May 8th will be included in price.

Students are required to wear Student IDs daily. Replacement cost is $5.00.
