Principal’s Message
Dear Parents,
Welcome to R.V. Daniels Elementary School, a school for the Gifted
and Academically Talented. Our gifted and academically talented
magnet program for grades K-2 is rigorous and is designed to ensure
academic success and continued positive self-concept at Susie
E. Tolbert Elementary School, our sister school for grades 3-5, with
continuity programs to James Weldon Johnson, Darnell-Cookman and
Julia Landon Middle Schools. We look forward to our partnership
with our families as we continue to focus on academic excellence.
Duval County Public Schools' curriculum is based on the New
Performance Standards and the Sunshine State Standards. Our teachers
engage students in the “workshop” model each day. We ask that you
help maintain this academic focus by scheduling appointments
before and after school only. Also, early pick-ups from the
office are discouraged as we use every moment of the day for
instruction.
We take pride that parents and community members are a part of our
learning community. We have several programs and activities to
enhance our learning community, including celebrating "Books of the
Month." Books of the Month are an important part of building this
learning community. We have a different book for each month that is
carefully selected for their strong messages. Every classroom
receives a copy of the book of the month. Teachers read
the book at the first of the month and then use it as a learning
tool for reading, writing, and other cross-curricular activities. This year, we are returning to some of our favorite books of the
month from former years. I hope that we have selected a few of
your favorites that are “worth repeating.”
We
are excited about all of the volunteer organizations at Daniels that
continue to make a positive difference for Daniels' students. Please
join at least one organization, such as "Dads at Daniels", the Parent/Teacher Association
[PTA] or the School Advisory Committee [SAC]. The wonderful volunteers
who serve in each of these organizations work tirelessly on
behalf of students and our teachers. And, they each welcome and
need volunteers. I am quite certain that the work you do will be
rewarding, so I encourage you to get involved.
I
look forward to working with each one of you and your child as we
Make Memories Worth Repeating this year. Please give me a call or
send me an email if I can assist you.
Thank you for your support in advance,
