Sandalwood AFJROTC Cadet Honors Fallen Heroes

Sandalwood High School AFJROTC Cadet Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt) Josh Rivet recently dedicated a Fallen Heroes Monument at Sandalwood High School. The monument reflects the names of four Sandalwood graduates that gave the supreme sacrifice during Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

The monument is placed at the school campus entrance for honor and reflection. The memorial includes flower gardens on either side of the monument, which reads “Dedicated and Commemorated in Honor of All Fallen Heroes Lest They Be Forgotten – December 3, 2011.”

On Saturday, December 3, 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Clifton, Sandalwood’s ROTC Officer, joined CMSgt Josh Rivet in hosting a Fallen Heroes Monument inaugural dedication ceremony. Students, teachers, staff and parents joined to honor the men and women who have dedicated their lives for the sake of our country and freedom.

“I don’t use the word ‘awesome’ often, but it certainly applies in this case,” said Lieutenant Colonel Michael Clifton. “This young man combines love of country with attitude and effort in all his endeavors.”

Thank you to CMSgt Josh Rivet for your commitment and integrity in dedicating the Fallen Heroes Monument. To view more pictures from the inaugural dedication ceremony, visit the DCPS’ flickr photostream.
