From the Principal…
I hope everyone is having a great summer break! Many of our parents have
chosen to place their children in the Read It Forward Jax program for
the summer in order to help keep them reading and learning. This should
help these boys and girls when they return to school in the fall and
begin a new school year.
Camp Einstein is going strong! The children are learning everyday and
having a good time while doing that. They go on active field trips and
have special guests come in to talk with them about a variety of topics.
It is a fun day for all.
As we work on preparing for the next school year we are cleaning and
organizing. Our theme for next year id, “Recipe For Success”, and we
will continue to work with our students to keep them growing
academically. We now have our school grade for last year and we remain
an “A” school. That is a great testament to the hard work that our
teachers do each and every day. We have much work to continue doing
because we still did not make adequate yearly progress.
Making adequate yearly progress means that we affect 80% of students in
each of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) sub-groups so that they
demonstrate a year’s worth of growth academically. This year our black
students did not make adequate yearly progress in the areas of reading
and mathematics. This means that we need to find strategies that work to
improve their learning and help them improve academically.
I am looking forward to my second year at Sheffield and working with the
students, parents and staff. Sheffield is a really good school with
caring teachers. As collaborative teams I know that they will work hard
to instruct their children. This is a partnership and, working together
we can ensure that our children make the academic gains they need to
make.
Continue to have a great summer. Make sure that your children are
reading and practicing their math facts. By doing this everyday your
children will be ready for the next school year.
