The Duval County School Board met to determine the next steps in the search for a new Superintendent. It was determined that the research into these candidates’ past performance could be accomplished by researching and reviewing important factors involving data, financial responsibility and community involvement. This research will be done locally, therefore not expending additional resources to travel to each of the locations.

The School Board has asked the Instructional Research and Accountability Department to look at specific areas of data from each of the respective districts including reading, college readiness, graduation rate, achievement gap and climate surveys. The Board Auditor will review individual financial statements from each district, as well as review areas of responsibility, and how each respective candidate has worked to ensure fiduciary responsibility.

Business and community leaders in Jacksonville will be asked to assist the Board by talking with their counterparts in the three respective districts to determine how the individuals work with organizations including the Chamber, faith-based organizations, the media, community organizations and the Teachers’ Union to name a few. This information will be compiled and provided to the Board for their review prior to final candidate interviews.

The Board has requested for the candidates to return on September 24 to meet with internal and external stakeholders to ask questions and discuss concerns freely. These sessions will be facilitated by non-district personnel and will not be open to the public nor will any School Board member be present. Those individuals in these meetings will have the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback on the individual candidates through this process.

On September 25, the School Board will meet with each candidate individually, and then deliberate to select a Superintendent for Duval County Public Schools. These interviews and deliberations will be open to the public and streamed on our website at www.duvalschools.org.

Thank you for all of your input during this process. We are still accepting feedback that is completely anonymous and will be shared with each Board member for consideration into the process. You can share your thoughts here. For a look at each of the initial interviews, please visit here.
