In addition to the traditional summer school options offered to Duval County public school (DCPS) students in grades k-12, we will also offer several FREE Superintendent's Reading & Mathematics Academies for elementary, middle and high school students students who attend Title I Turnaround schools.

Elementary Academies

Primary Reading
If your child is currently in kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade and scored at "High Risk" on F.A.I.R, this 6-week program is for you.  Students will work on strategies focused on the building blocks of reading. This program is NOT for promotion.  All students will attend at one of six summer school sites.

Intermediate Reading & Mathematics
If your child has been promoted to 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, but has scored Level 2 in FCAT Reading or Level 1 or 2 in FCAT Mathematics, this 6-week program is for you.  Students will be engaged in a rigorous standards-based reading (3 hours) and mathematics (3 hours) program each day.   Criteria required includes mandatory attendance, benchmark testing and successful completion of assignments.

Middle School Academies

Superintendent’s Bridge Academy
If your child has been promoted to 6th (middle school), but has scored Level 1 or 2 in FCAT Reading and/or FCAT Mathematics, this 6-week program is for you.  This “bridge” program supports enhancement of the required reading and mathematics skills to be successful in a new middle school environment.  Criteria required includes mandatory attendance, benchmark testing and successful completion of assignments.  Registration is limited to the first 100 students per site:

High School Academies

Superintendent’s College Bound Academy
If your 11th, 12th, or rising 13th grade student has not passed FCAT Reading or FCAT Mathematics required for graduation, this program is for you.  Students will receive extensive ACT/SAT preparation with 3 weeks of reading and 3 weeks of mathematics.  The district will pay for ACT/SAT tests in early fall for those who complete the program.  The district will also provide (at no cost for each student who completes the course) a one-year subscription to ACT/SAT Online. Turnaround high school students will attend one of four Title 1 sites.

High School Exploration Bridge
This “bridge” program will support enhancement of the required reading and mathematics skills to be successful in a new middle or high school environment.    Students in this program will receive both academy specific instruction in reading, math, and other college readiness objectives, and engaging introductions to aspects of each school’s academy concentration.

Superintendent’s Algebra Academy
If your current 9th grade student has struggled with Algebra I and has not passed Florida’s new Algebra End-of-Course Exam, this program is for you.  In this half-day program, students will receive intensive instruction in the most critical Algebra I content objectives.  The half-day sessions are scheduled to begin on June 27th and last for 24 days.

You have the choice of two locations for the Algebra Academy, Peterson or Sandalwood High School.  You also have the choice of two sessions:

DCPS, Florida State College Jacksonville, and Bethel Baptist Church Summer Intervention Academy

If your high school student needs to recover a one-credit course and has scored an FCAT Level 1 or 2 in reading, mathematics or science, this 6-week, half-day program is for you.  Students from the eleven Title I high schools are eligible to attend at no cost. DCPS, FSCJ and Bethel Baptist Institutional Church partner in offering this unique, structured learning environment to support high school credit recovery in English, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies courses. FCAT support for 9th and 10th grade students is also available.  Limited space is available. Students may attend FSCJ and Bethel sites for rigorous classroom work with a highly qualified teacher for a 4-hour block. Attendance policy applies.
