From June 20 - July 29, 2011, Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) will host several FREE summer school opportunities for our elementary, middle and high school students in need of promotion or credit/course recovery.

Elementary Recovery

Please note that Duval students attending summer school at any school outside of DCPS MUST have the principal's approval prior to attending. Applications are available at your child's school.

Read It Forward Jax
All Kindergarten through Grade 5 students who scored High Risk on the 2011 Spring FAIR administration (AP3) are required to attend this summer support program to maintain and enhance the critical reading skills and strategies for success.

Grades Kindergarten - 2 Summer Enrichment
If your child is currently a Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade student and scored at "High Risk" this year on F.A.I.R, this 6-week program is for you.  Students will work on strategies focused on the building blocks of reading.   Attendance policy applies.  This program is NOT for promotion.  All students will attend their assigned school site.

Grade 3 Summer FCAT Recovery All 3rd grade reading students who are a Level I in Reading as required by statute from the FLDOE must attend summer recovery for promotion to grade 4.
If your child would have been promoted to 4th grade except he or she scored at FCAT Reading Level 1, this 6-week program is for you.  (This program will also accept students who scored at FCAT Reading Level 1 and failed reading on the report card.) Students will work on a portfolio and prepare for an exit test through a rigorous curriculum and intervention plan.  Attendance policy applies.  All students will attend their assigned school site. 

Summer Reading Course Recovery All grade 3 (non-Level 1), 4, and 5 students who failed reading based on a teacher-assigned grade of F.
If your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade child would have been promoted to the next grade except he or she failed READING only on the report card, this 6-week program is for you.  Students will be engaged in a rigorous standards-based reading program to prepare for a grade level exit benchmark test. Attendance policy applies.  All students will attend their assigned school sites.

Grades 3-5 Summer Reading For Success
If your child is currently a 3rd, 4th or 5th grade student and scored at "High Risk" this year on F.A.I.R, this 6-week program is for you.  Your child will receive intensive reading support focused on the 6 components of reading.   Attendance policy applies.  This program is NOT for promotion.  All students will attend their assigned school site.

Summer Math Course Recovery
If your 3rd, 4th or 5th grade child would have been promoted to the next grade except he or she failed MATH only on the report card, this 6-week program is for you.  Students will be engaged in a rigorous standards-based mathematics program to prepare for a grade level exit benchmark test. Attendance policy applies.  All students will attend one of four summer school sites: Don Brewer, Stockton, Tolbert and Sabal Palm.


Secondary Recovery

Please note that Duval students attending summer school at any school outside of DCPS MUST have the principal's approval prior to attending. Applications are available at your child's school.

Middle & High School Credit Recovery
If your middle or high school student needs to recover a one-credit course (or two half-credit courses in high school), this 6-week, half-day program is for you.  Students may attend one of 5 middle school or 7 high school sites for work through the Compass Odyssey computer program for a 3-hour block.  At middle school, Grade 8 students needing one class for promotion will receive top priority.  Attendance policy applies.

Two enrollment options are available attendance policy applies.  This program is NOT for promotion.  All students will attend one of the middle or high school summer school sites.
