How do I
get my child's transcript?
A parent or age-appropriate student may request a
transcript in each school’s guidance office. (Students at Stanton College Prep
go online to
http://cyberguidance.net to request transcripts). Transcripts requested for
the eleven State universities and most community colleges and public schools are
transmitted electronically through the FASTER system. If the student has
graduated or should have graduated more than three years ago, the transcript is
available through Microfilm/Student Records at 390-2088.
How can I
enroll my child in home education?
Go
to the
Home Education website or call 390-2476.
I want my
child's schedule changed. Who should I talk to?
Discuss with your child’s counselor your reasons for
requesting a change. The counselor can assist you in understanding the possible
repercussions of the change and facilitating this change if school policy allows
it. Additionally, at the high school level, completing a course of study is a
graduation requirement so care must be taken whenever a student’s schedule is
changed.
Who should I
talk to if I think my child's grade is unfair?
Parents should first talk with their child’s teacher. If
the conversation with the teacher does not resolve the problem, other staff
members are available to assist, such as department heads, counselors, assistant
principals, and the school principal.
I
am going through a divorce. What can I do to help my child get through
this?
Parents should contact their child’s school counselor.
Many schools have divorce groups for children offered through the guidance
office. Counselors can also help you find counseling services available in the
community.
My child
will soon transfer from a high school that is one type of schedule to a high
school on a different schedule. How will this move affect my child’s schedule
and the number of credits earned for the year?
It is recommended that a student who
anticipates a transfer within the school year check with his guidance counselor
to plan the most advantageous time to make the transfer. Careful planning will
help to ensure that maximum credits are earned and grade level placement remains
on track.
My family
and I will soon be moving into the area. Where can we get information on
schools to help us with our decision on where to live?
Go to the District’s web site
www.duvalschools.org and click on “Schools and information.” Another
good site for comparing schools is
www.greatschools.net.

How can I
know if my child is meeting all graduation requirements?
Graduation requirements for high school students may be
found on the District’s web site
www.duvalschools.org. Click on “academic excellence” and “pupil
progression plan. “ The requirements begin on page 32. Each spring students in
grades 8 – 11 receive a copy of “Creating Your Future Career and Educational
Planning Guide.” The requirements can also be found in this text beginning on
page 8. For specific questions about your child’s graduation status, it is
strongly recommended that you schedule an appointment with the
guidance counselor at your child’s school.
Who should I talk to if I think
that my child needs extra help in school?
Parents should request a conference with their child’s
teacher(s) to discuss concerns and plan strategies to assist the child. Parents
may request that the school counselor attend this conference, or may meet
separately with the counselor for further assistance.
