The Elementary School Counseling Demonstration Grant

Five full-time elementary school counselors are currently funded under this federal grant program. The goal of the grant is to demonstrate the impact of school counseling on student achievement. The counselors, who are graduates of the SOAR program at the University of North Florida, offer a comprehensive, data-driven program consisting of classroom guidance, small group and individual counseling, consultation with parents and teachers, and coordination of various in-school and community services. Evaluation data for their programs has shown a positive impact on discipline referrals, promotion rates, and test scores. The counselors have presented at both local and national conferences.
