Sixth Annual Superintendent's Reading Celebration
Superintendent's Star
Reader Book Club
Saturday, May 31, 2008
10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Jacksonville’s Metropolitan Park
This is a celebration that honors
Duval County Students who have met their twenty five book reading challenge
each school year.
The celebration is organized by WJCT,
Jacksonville Public Libraries, ARAMARK Corporation and the Duval County
Public Schools to promote reading in our community.
Students earn the right to attend
the celebration by reading 25 books in one school year and recording the
books read with their Duval County Public School classroom teacher. The
teacher reports the student’s names who have met the challenge to the
student’s school media specialist who gives out the reading celebration
invitations to all students at the school who have met the twenty five book
standard.
Students who receive reading award(s)
at school may bring it or them to the reading celebration for even
more recognition. Awards are not given out at the park.
The Reading Celebration is designed
for all ages to enjoy. The whole family is treated to an “extra special
day” full of prizes and storytellers. Metropolitan Park comes to life
filled with fun activities sponsored by numerous community organizations
that support the importance of reading.
All students must be
accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.
