Most Florida colleges and universities
require a minimum of two years of the same foreign language but
preference is often given to those students who have studied three

The State of Florida does
recognize ASL as a foreign language credit that fulfills the two-year
requirement of the 18-credit diploma as well the minimum two-year
requirement for college admission. However, some out-of-state colleges
and universities may not accept ASL course for foreign language
credit. |

second language waive the two-year requirement? |

Yes. Currently a student who wishes to
waive the two-year foreign language requirement may do so by
demonstrating proficiency through one of the approved methods as
outlined in the Bright Future’s Scholarship Program. |

for foreign language classes taken at middle school? |

No. A student cannot earn high school
credit in middle school, however, a student who successfully completes
level I of a foreign language in the 8th grade can be placed into
level II of the same language in high school. |
