(AICE), Advanced Placement (AP) Honors, Early College, &
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
What are the benefits of participating
in an Acceleration Program?
Students who successfully complete required
courses earn college credit while still in high school
and receive advanced standing in the college admissions
process.
What are the requirements for
application?
All programs require successful completion of
Algebra I prior to entering grade 9. The AICE, Early
College and IB Diploma Programs also require a 7th grade
FCAT score of Level 3 in both Reading and Mathematics
or 85th percentile on equivalent nationally
standardized test for students from private schools or
those transferring from another state.
How do I apply?
You may download an application from the
program description links provided or pick up an
application from the individual schools. Completed
applications must be returned to the selected school,
addressed to the attention of the Program Coordinator.
Applications for students who live in a county
adjacent to Duval County will not be processed
for schools that are over 105% utilization or until all
students residing in Duval County are accommodated.
Applications for students who are moving to
Duval County from another state or city in Florida must
have a local residential address before an application
will be processed.
Applications for Duval County students
currently enrolled in a private school are welcomed.
New student application forms must be completed to
assign student identification numbers and initiate
placement. These can be downloaded from
www.duvalchoice.com.
Is transportation provided?
Transportation is provided to students living
in the attendance zone of the selected school.
Students applying to a school outside their attendance
zone must provide their own transportation. However,
students accepted into the AICE, IB, or Early College at
William M. Raines and Jean Ribault may access available
magnet transportation on a space available basis.
Is Military Priority Applicable?
Senate Bill 1604, passed by the 2004 Florida
Legislature, provides that students who are dependents
of active military personnel be given first preference
for admission to special academic programs not available
in neighborhood schools. Students must meet
eligibility requirements, reside in Duval County and
submit proof that the student is a dependent of active
duty military personnel. Students wishing to
exercise the military priority must also complete the
Military Transfer Option 2010-2011 Student Transfer
Application and submit it along with the Acceleration
Program application and required documentation.
The application for Military Transfer is available at
www.duvalchoice.com.
Transportation for military dependent students is the
same as noted above.
Will Acceleration Program credits
earned in high school transfer to colleges and
universities?
Most colleges and universities award college
credit for passing scores on AICE, AP, and IB
examinations. Each institution has unique
admission requirements and policies regarding the award
of credit. For more specific information regarding
university policy contact the institution directly.
When will I be notified if I have been
accepted?
Please contact the
individual school regarding the status of your
application.
Will participation in an acceleration
program impact my qualification for the Florida Bright
Futures Scholarship?
Students earning an AICE or IB Diploma and
completing the volunteer service requirement, qualify
for the highest award of the Florida Bright Futures
Scholarship (Florida Academic Scholar), regardless of
SAT or ACT score. Completion of the AICE or IB
Diploma Program of study qualifies a student for the
Florida Medallion Scholar award.
Are students who are accepted into an
acceleration program required to meet academic
performance standards?
If the student does not
progress according to the academic plan by maintaining
the required standards, he/she will be placed on
probation with a progress monitoring plan. At the
end of the probationary period, progress will be
reviewed to determine program continuity.
